There is a great deal of time, effort and expense involved in raising a Bulldog litter (getting a female ready for breeding, having her bred, having a successful delivery and raising a litter to 8 weeks). First of all there is stud fees. The female is usually artificially inseminated, then there is a C-section, ultrasounds and x-rays and that is only the beginning. In spite of their appearance the Bulldog, as a newborn puppy is extremely fragile. It requires constant monitoring of the female when she feeds the puppies (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).  A breeder may spend well over $2000 to get a litter ready to sell.
