It is important to get a vet to do a smear on your dog to determine when she will be in estrus. I've been told to bring my dog in to be smeared on day 11 (after she started bleeding).  We are currently doing our own smears on our dogs.  According to what we saw we had one female ready on day 9 and one on day 13.  Male sperm can live up to 72 hours less for AI.  I was told by an old breeder that you should breed day 9 day 11 and 13.  Since each females cycle can vary it would be impossible to get an idea of when your dog is in estrus without a smear.  We will know if we were correct in what we saw on our females when they deliver. I will post the results of whether or not we correct here.
